Case Study: Supporting a Survivor of Domestic Violence in Kachua
Background
In October 2025, a 30-year-old married woman from Kachua Upazila, Chandpur District (referred to here as Survivor A to protect her identity) was facing ongoing physical violence in her marital home. She had completed primary education up to Grade 5 and was financially dependent on her husband.
The Challenge
For nearly three years, Survivor A endured repeated physical abuse. Due to social stigma, limited education, and lack of awareness about legal rights, she remained silent and did not seek formal support. The violence continued to affect her physical safety and emotional well-being.
Our Intervention
Our organization learned about the situation through local community members. After conducting a confidential home visit and assessment, we provided:
- Immediate counseling and legal awareness
- Assistance in filing a General Diary (GD) at the local police station
- Mediation support with safety monitoring
We ensured that all actions prioritized her safety and dignity.
Outcome
Following legal intervention and community-level mediation, the abusive behavior stopped. The case was resolved at the local level with documented warning and monitoring. Survivor A is now living in a safer and more stable environment.
Impact
This case demonstrates the importance of timely legal support and community-based intervention in preventing continued domestic violence. Access to legal assistance empowered Survivor A to assert her rights and secure her safety.
